U.S.S. Prairie
Hello Again,
You all should be home now and in really tip top condition after the expedition into Temagami. I haven't had any mail for over a week and so won't know how the trip to Eagle Rock and the last couple weeks of Temag were until it arrives - which it should sometime today.
I guess Mary is well established at I.U. now and has successfully corralled Barbara Wright and Zabel Barnhart into being Delta Gammas. At this rate the Delta Gamma of I.U. will be somewhat of a family affair. I wrote to Barbara recently and one started on a letter to Zabel. You know already that Mary's friend Alice wrote and I'm mustering courage to drop her a line also. Lately, too, I've been giving Veen extra attention. She claims that she has outwritten me 19-3 so my conscience became a wee bit guilty and I've reformed and written her several letters the last few weeks. She'll no doubt be surprised at the upward swing. I wish it was as easy for me to write letters as it is for some people.
Is Aunty Gertrude still with you? That's good - she had the chance to enjoy a little of what the rest of the family has loved for so many years. Aunt Myrtle is probably back in Washington now I guess.
Say, Mom, your package arrived and was really swell, super and wot not. When I first

saw all that literature my first impulse was to hide it and hoard it. It was a queer feeling - having all that good reading at once. I quickly finished off the Readers Digest and Popular Science (thank you Aunty Gertrude) and gave them away to the nearest sailor who looked as if he could use some reading. The other books, particularly the college lit book, I'll study. That's what I wanted them for anyway. I have plans to send away for a course in "trig" which the Navy offers thru the chaplain. It will be merely to brush up on high school so that I won't forget everything by the time the war ends and I start college (I'm looking forward to that). Say, my trig book from Kiski might still be home - that would save me the trouble of getting a new one. I remember I left my last year Fit and Chemistry books with all the notes I had made at school after graduation. I notice lots of fellows aboard have course which they are taking by correspondence.
Well, thanks again for the package, and for now I'll sign off. I've got to relieve the watch.
Lots of Love,
Bud
