Dearest Family,

After a slight pause in my writing, I've now got a new, but still not permanent, address. It is ok if you write to this one, though, so start senden' em. My new address is:

Me (Harlan Shirey Yenne Jr. S⅔ RM)
"X" Division Com Des Pac
c/o Fleet Post Office
San Francisco, Calif.

I should have quite a stack of mail if and when it ever catches up to me, and I'm looking forward to an hour or so of real conscientious letter reading as soon as Uncle Sam sees fit to get my mail through. Even at that though, I've been finding plenty to keep myself busy without mail.

It might interest you to know that my 'purple Heart' (thumb) is now healed but my left thumb is on the blink. Now, maybe I'll get a medal. Other than the aforementioned, I'm in good health and anxious to 'slap a Jap' (with my right hand of course).

Recently, I've been reading more than ever before. The last three days I've read two Perry Mason mysteries, a poetry book (the same we used for para-phrasing at Kiski), 30 Seconds Over Tokyo and Mutiny on the Bounty. That's quite a bit isn't it?

It's getting so I can read a pocket book in about three hours. Reading is one thing the fellows can and do use out here. The pocket books are the favorites because they're so easy to handle and carry, then comes Readers Digest if one can be found (they're awfully scarce) and 3rd is "Time". These are my own accounts of what I've seen. Of course the "Life", "Pick" and picture magazines along with army 'Yank' are popular. People at home have been pretty good in sending books etc. to service men. Today I saw courses in all school subjects offered to the men for a small initial fee for each.

Well, the bottom of the paper is coming up fast so for now I'll say goodbye.

Lots of love,
Bud
