Sept 29, 1943
Hello Mom, Pop etc.
I've been kind of busy the last few days and consequently haven't been able to write. Today a letter from Dad came and also one from Earl Hines inviting me for dinner some time. I'd sure like to accept but I have no leaves until after the 26th and then am under Naval jurisdiction until I board the train for Cleveland. Also got a letter from Mary, Burr Mawery and Mr. Hunt (corner of Webb).
I wish that I could answer all of them but the best I can do is about one letter a day - so please don't be discouraged when a letter from me doesn't arrive daily.
Got paid 5 dollars today so as you can see the 29 of Sept was a pretty profitable day - although it's not over yet and anything [page break]
can happen - which usually does.
Yesterday I had row boating and had quite an experience. I learned how to raise, lower, (hoist) row, steer and names of all parts of the Cutter.
Tidi's wedding is out I guess. A fellow can go home for a funeral, but not a wedding. What's the difference I'd like to know? - anyway as far as the groom is concerned.
Gee Dora must really be getting solid in spelling. 100 - 100 - 100. Why that's almost as well as I can do. If she keeps it up her sailor brother will bring her a "big" present when he gets home. It just dawned on me that if I get my leave the 26th of October, I'll be able to attend the first birthday party Dora's had in three years. I remember how I used to spend all Halloween at Kiski wishing I were home. Now I wish I was at Kiski.
Are you folks going to send [page break]
my horn? It hasn't come yet and although I can't use it for much I love to play it.
Gee, it's time to go out for afternoon drill already. So for now
Lots of love
Bud.
